Katherine Gimla CarraherGrants Manager
Critical thinker. Political aficionada. Voracious reader. Keen observer of social dynamics. Wrangler of florid prose.
Katherine Gimla Carraher is a Grants Manager at Third Plateau, assisting foundation clients with their grantmaking priorities by providing targeted support in the areas of communications, research and analysis, data tracking, relationship building, and general operations.
Before coming to Third Plateau Katherine worked with Leventhal Kline Management, where she was responsible for providing administrative and bookkeeping support for private foundation clients, grant agreement preparation and tracking, and supporting clients’ governance and recordkeeping processes. She also handled payroll for staff and clients as well as office operations, meeting coordination and communications. Katherine has worked for both nonprofits and a super PAC and has experience in campaign finance compliance in multiple states.
Her previous career as a journalist started in a newspaper library (ask her about her favorite journalism movies and she’ll always name the ones showing reporters doing research!), and she eventually became a columnist, copy editor, and features writer. When her political activism began bumping into her professional byline, Katherine left the newspaper business to go back to school. She earned a B.A. in political science from Syracuse University and was set to pursue a dual PhD in political science and public administration when family circumstances brought her instead to the Bay Area, where she put her skills to use editing academic papers for graduate students and postdocs. She has since earned a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from San Francisco State University.
Katherine has lived on both coasts as well as Chicago and Puerto Rico, but now calls the East Bay home.
