Jaré AkchinVice President
Gumbo enthusiast. Systems thinker. Avid hiker. Pie maker. Connector.
Jaré Akchin (she/her) is Vice President for Jewish Community Impact at Third Plateau where she supports people and organizations working within the Jewish community to deepen and amplify their work in the social sector. Jaré has over twenty years of experience in the Jewish nonprofit sector, serving in a variety of programmatic, executive leadership and philanthropic roles.
Prior to joining Third Plateau, Jaré served as Program Director at the Circle of Service Foundation, leading the foundation’s Jewish Community giving portfolio both domestically and overseas. In this role, she was an active leader in local and national conversations on early childhood education and engagement, poverty in the Jewish community, and organizational capacity building. She also supported large-scale national research projects focused on young family engagement and young adult engagement and provided strategic planning support to a number of local and national organizations.
Before joining Circle of Service, Jaré served as the first Executive Director of Mishkan Chicago, an alternative spiritual community aimed at engaging Jewish young adults in meaningful Jewish experiences. She helped build the systems needed to move the organization from its scrappy start-up phase to the powerhouse spiritual communty it is today. Jaré also spent several years as the Director of Annual Giving at JCC Chicago, focusing on individual and foundation giving to the organization.
Jaré’s early career started in the San Francisco Bay Area where she held a variety of direct-service roles. She served as the Founding Director of the Jewish Serving Learning Project at the Bureau of Jewish Education (now Jewish LearningWorks), Teen Manager at JCC San Francisco, Regional Director for BBYO’s Central Region West, and Principal of the Havurah High program.
Beyond the Jewish community, Jaré is passionate about reproductive justice, women’s equality, and creating a safer and more just environmental landscape. In her spare time, Jaré can be found on a hiking trail, traveling to visit friends around the world, or fine-tuning her baking skills.
Jaré holds a B.A. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Public Administration from San Francisco State University. She is a Louisiana native (Geaux Tigers!) who currently resides in Chicago, though she dreams of moving to a warmer climate nearly every day.
